The Used Car Rule requires dealers to post the Buyers Guide on all used vehicles, including automobiles, light-duty vans, and light-duty trucks. Demonstrator cars also must have Buyers Guides. But Buyers Guides do not have to be posted on motorcycles and most recreational vehicles. Individuals selling fewer than six cars a year are not required to post Buyers Guides.
Good luck, and if the deal looks to good to be true, it probably is. However, armed with the right backup material you can make sure you get the best deal. Walk if the dealer wont divulge all the above figures; go somewhere else. Watch the ads, too, as the fine print often makes that $199 a MONTH! look a little less attractive after you figure out that you need to put $5,000 down first. And as a final note, be aware that the local ads taken out in the newspaper by one dealership are probably lies; the deal was for ONE car and I can guarantee you it sold. Rosenthal, a huge chain in the Washington Area, is know for this (they once advertised a Millenia that sold in August all the way through Decemeber; each week, that same stock # was shown for some ridiculos price in the _Washington Post_). However, if its a TV ad, it probably means factory financing. Those Mazda Passion for the Road ads, annoying as they were, spelled out a pretty attractive 626 deal. Always check the fine print, howe.

After test drive the car, we felt comfortable talking to him. When we went back to showroom we started to negotiate price with him. We proposed the price based on our calculation but with only $100 over invoice. First he told us the price we ask was too low because it was more than $2500 below MSRP but he could ask his manager. When he came back he came with a price with more than $1500 than we proposed, we decided to show him our calculation with the invoice information and $1000 factory to dealer incentives. It showed that if you dont tell them factory to dealer incentives information, they wont give that to you. Then he tried very hard to convince us the information we get was not accurate but we stood firm on those information. Eventually, he gave up on this but tried to convince us we could not get that price anywhere. We then showed his the some advertisement from auto-buyers club and told him we could try other dealers and if we could not get what we wanted locally,.
