I am interested in purchasing a 1964 T-bird convertible that is on consignment
at a local car lot. A magnet check of the body shows some puttied areas, and
the paint is not in great condition. On the inside, the drivers seat is torn,
the door handles are cracked and the chrome trim is dull, spotted and
pocked-looking. I purchased a Krause publication (their quarterly price guide
magazine) which defines six classes of cars based upon their condition. I
would say that the T-bird is between a 3 and 4 (much closer to a 4). The
Krause publication states that its values reflect actual confirmed auction and
private sale prices from around the country. I also purchased the NADA price
guide which defines three classes of cars, again, based upon their condition.
The NADA guide states that its values are probably higher than trade
publications because it assumes that even at the low classification, the
subject car is in better than average condition and has all original parts
and equipme. |
